Pros & cons
The honest breakdown.
What's great
- Genuinely easy — drag-and-drop that even first-timers get right
- Tight Square integration for in-person + online selling
- Free plan is usable for small catalogs
- Built-in email marketing and inventory tools
- Reliable hosting without any setup
What to watch for
- Template selection is dated compared to Squarespace or Shopify
- Limited customization beyond the visual editor
- SEO controls are basic
- Small app ecosystem — you get what Weebly/Square ships
- Product has stalled since the Square acquisition — updates are slow
Weebly is the sensible default for a Square-using local business that needs a simple online shop. For anyone else, Shopify or Wix will deliver more polish and more features at a similar price. Good enough for small, not great for growing.
Ideal for
Local retailers already on Square POS, solo sellers with under 50 SKUs, cafes and small service businesses dipping into online orders.
Skip it if
You want a brand-forward storefront, you need rich SEO or app support, or you plan to scale past a small catalog.

Migration
Moving in, and moving out.
What it actually takes to get onto Weebly by Square — and how painful it is if you outgrow it later. No vendor lock-in surprises.
Moving to Weebly by Square
Here's what it typically takes to migrate from common starting points.
Typical time
3-7 days
Typical cost
$0 – $500
Rare. Usually Square-centric retailers consolidating tools. Products via CSV; design is rebuilt with Weebly's editor.
Leaving Weebly by Square later
How hard is it if this isn't the right platform for you in 2-3 years? (Honest vendor lock-in reality.)
Weebly's export is thin — no clean way to get content out. Products CSV-export OK. Most migrations rebuild the site from scratch on the new platform. If you're growing out of Weebly, budget a 2-4 week rebuild period.

People ask us this a lot.
Is Weebly still worth it in 2026?+
Yes, narrowly — if you already use Square POS for in-person sales, Weebly gives you an online shop that shares inventory and payments for minimal cost. Outside of that use case, Shopify, Wix, or Squarespace are better picks.
Weebly vs Square Online — aren't they the same?+
Effectively yes. Weebly was rebranded into 'Square Online' for new signups but the underlying product is Weebly. Existing Weebly accounts still work; new users are funneled into Square Online.
Can I migrate from Weebly later?+
It's painful. Weebly has no clean export for products or content — you'll rebuild the site and re-enter products manually. Plan for 1-2 weeks if you outgrow it. Better to pick Shopify from day one if you have growth ambitions.
